Eccentric

Also written: eccentrics

The lowering phase of a lift, when the muscle lengthens under load.

Lowering into a squat or lowering the bar to your chest is the phase. You’re stronger in this phase than when lifting, and it causes the most soreness.

Controlling the eccentric is a big part of good technique.
