Mechanical Tension

The force a muscle produces against resistance: the main signal for growth.

When a muscle works hard against a load, its fibers are under tension. That tension is the primary signal that tells the muscle to adapt and grow.

Heavy weights create tension, and so do lighter weights taken close to failure.
